Activity: The Tongue
by Marie Stroughter
A memorable activity to teach children about the impact of our words!

Idea: The Tongue (James Chapter 3)

Ages: 2 - 10 years old

CONCEPT: Once our words are spoken, we cannot take them back

Materials:

Toothpaste
Paper plate
Food coloring (optional)

Activity:

Take a tube of toothpaste (one for each child....trial sizes work great!). Have your child(ren) splurt the toothpaste out onto the paper plate. You can put a drop of food color, if desired, and fingerpaint on the plate (for younger children). Then ask your child (ren) to put the toothpaste back into the tube. Ask: Can you? Is it easy or hard? Why or why not? This exercise also can be done with a feather pillow, a water balloon, or other objects in which it would be impossible to reconstruct. Do not use raw eggs due to the risk of samonella contamination; and if using a feather pillow, be sure there is no known allergy/asthma. Toothpaste is easiest because of the ease of clean up with the plate! I'd love to be able to take credit for this one, but I got it from a mailer sent to me!
